Converging Plate Boundaries
There are two different types of converging plate boundaries. These two types are called Destructive and Uplifting boundaries.
Uplifting Boundary:
Uplifting boundaries occur when two continental (land) plates collide with one another. This collision results in both plates rising upwards because the two plates both have have the same density. These "uplifting" boundaries cause the formation of mountain ranges such as the Alps.

Destructive Boundary:
Destructive boundaries are caused by the collision of a contiinental plate and an oceanic plate. As the oceanic plate is less dense than the continental plate, it is forced under the continetal plate in a place called the Subduction Zone. Some results of this collision occuring are island arcs forming and volcanoes emerging.
