The Earth's Crust
The earth's crust is the outer most layer of the planet's foundation. It is likened to the skin of an apple as it is solid and very thin compared to the other layers of the Earth.
The crust is made of a thin layer of rock and anything abpove the crust is known as the Biosphere. Present day, the crust of the earth is split into seven main tectonic plates. Plate tectonics is the theory of the large-scale motions that the lithoshpere endures over time.

Due to the movements of these plates, there have been many changes on the Earth's surface. The boundaries of these plates have been constantly moving against each other for billions of years and thus resulting in friction, destruction and reconstruction of the earth's crust.
